Best Driving Routes Around Milton Keynes
Milton Keynes sits at the heart of England, surrounded by beautiful countryside and fascinating destinations. Here are our favourite driving routes to enjoy in your premium vehicle.
The Buckinghamshire Chilterns Loop
Head south from Milton Keynes towards the Chiltern Hills for some of the best driving roads in the south of England. Take the A4146 towards Leighton Buzzard, then wind through the villages of Ivinghoe and Aldbury. The roads here are beautifully surfaced, gently undulating, and pass through Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Stop at Ivinghoe Beacon for spectacular views, then continue through Wendover and Great Missenden — home of Roald Dahl — before looping back via Princes Risborough and Aylesbury.
The Silverstone Circuit Route
Head west on the A43 towards Silverstone. Even when there's no racing, the surrounding Northamptonshire countryside offers excellent driving. Continue through Brackley to the charming market town of Banbury, then return via Buckingham. The roads through this area are wide, well-maintained, and perfect for appreciating the performance capabilities of your premium car.
The Stowe and North Bucks Tour
Drive north-west to the magnificent Stowe House and Gardens, one of Britain's finest landscape gardens. The approach through Buckingham is lovely, and from Stowe you can continue to the picturesque villages of Turweston and Westbury before heading north to Towcester. Return via the A5 or take the more scenic route through Hanslope and Newport Pagnell.
The Bedford River Great Ouse
Head east towards Bedford and follow the River Great Ouse through some delightful Bedfordshire villages. The route takes you through Olney — famous for its pancake race — and onwards to Sharnbrook and Harrold. The roads are quiet, the scenery is pastoral, and there are numerous pubs and tea rooms for a mid-drive stop. Return via the A6 for a brisk run back to Milton Keynes.
The Grand Union Canal Trail
For a more relaxed drive, follow the route of the Grand Union Canal southwards from Milton Keynes. The canal passes through Leighton Buzzard, Tring, and Berkhamsted, each offering their own character and charm. The roads that parallel the canal are quiet and scenic, and you can stop at numerous canalside pubs along the way. This route is particularly beautiful in autumn when the surrounding trees put on a spectacular colour display.
